Baby bull’s eye
Do you know that feeling when you hit the bull’s eye? I got it this week and I’ll explain why.
My niece just had her baby last week. It was a girl but I didn’t know that when I was pulling fabric.
Because the parents (my niece and her husband) chose not to know the gender ahead of time, I had to be creative in my fabric choices.
I started out with about eight colors, kind of like a box of crayons. My backgrounds were black and white prints. I cut. I sewed. I auditioned the blocks. I wasn’t quite satisfied…so I added more.
When I added more blocks, I still felt like something was missing. I needed a spark. Then I added the prints with white. Yes! I cut and sewed some more blocks.
I spent some time playing with the blocks and ended up eliminating ones that did not contribute to my vision. Sigh. Isn’t that always the way? Two steps forward and one step back. I have a lot of leftover scraps. Oh well.
This quilt was the third in a series of baby quilts for three babies born in 2021. They were made for my grandson and two grand nieces. So I wanted them to be similar and special. I’m so happy about the babies and the quilts. I feel like I hit the bull’s eye. Below are Reya’s quilt, then Selah’s quilt and finally Holden’s quilt.
